It went well tonight! They told me I would be shadowing another usher the whole night, well, that didn't happen. They ended up making me usher most of the night; it was quite nerve wrecking. We have to arrive an hour early (the Gig begins at 6PM) for prayer and our own little Bible study.

Doing the offering was the most stressing time because the sanctuary is quite large, and I forgot some of the rules for passing the buckets. Overall, it went well. I can't wait to do it all over again next Sunday night!

Our pastor Raul Ries puts on a yearly crusade somewhere in the United States. He's been doing it for many, many, many years now, it is similar to the Billy Graham Crusades, and Greg Laurie's Harvest Crusade. In fact, it is the same idea, just a different pastor. Last year the crusade was held at Dodger Stadium.

Anyway, this year's big crusade, the Somebody Loves You Crusade, is in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pastor Raul wants to reach the youth in that broken place. You can check out the ministry website (here). Not Enough Hours In A Day!

Everyday so far I have been up around 6AM, and my day doesn't end until nightfall. It's pretty amazing how busy I have been lately. Tonight I did my first day of training as an usher at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs, and tomorrow I am back at work.

As an administrative assistant I've been working really hard as we set to open our new building. I arrive at 8AM and don't go home until 5:30PM. There needs to be more hours in a day!

I'm excited about ushering now at church, I've learned a lot of behind the scenes stuff; pretty neat. We're in the Palms on Wednesday night, and on Sunday mornings we are in the Book of Matthew. I'll be serving at the Gig next Sunday night.

Alright, now it's time to stop, breath, and start all over again tomorrow.

Police are looking for three men involved in a gun battle at Montclair High School on Tuesday.

Witnesses called police at 3:09 p.m. about the shooting in the 9900 block of Camulos Avenue. Witnesses said a man was walking on the campus behind the varsity baseball diamond when two other men drove up on Camulos.

The man standing by the baseball diamond and the two men in the car exchanged gunfire, police said. The driver sped away south on Camulos and the man on foot ran west on El Morado Street. Police were unable to find any of the men.

Forgive me, but I find it hard to tolerate liberal indignation. I read every single legal brief filed in all three cases before the California Supreme Court. If you had read each one, today's Court ruling would not be so surprising! I bet most people couldn't even name the three cases, let alone that the Court reviewed three cases in the Prop. 8 debacle!

Yet, somehow, people were 'shocked' at the Court's 6-1 vote in the cases. Really? Come on idiotic Californians! Start getting involved, read the legal briefs, come to an understanding of what the law states. Otherwise, you look like a bunch of fools squawking about matters of which you have no idea!

That's what I love the most about the law, it is so clear. The law deals in syllogisms, logic, a person can understand how a Court will rule just by reading each sides' briefs. How simple is that? Yet people just sit on the sidelines carping.

Despite student protests, the University of California regents today approved a 9.3%, or $662, increase in most student fees for next year. Given the grim outlook for the state budget, the regents said, the only -- and much worse -- alternative was deep reductions in class offerings and student services.

"I don’t know where else to go. I simply do not know where to go," UC President Mark G. Yudof said of the fee hike during a regents meeting held by conference call from 13 locations around the state. He also insisted that expected increases in financial aid and federal tax credits would cover the fee hike for most students, even those from upper-middle-income families.

However, students denounced the raise, which would bring the average basic cost for an undergraduate UC education to about $8,720 a year, not including room, board and books. Hair Coverings And Hair Length

Tonight I'm back in 1 Corinthians. I've gotten as far as chapter 11 where Paul is talking about certain practices for women. Unfortunately, many people have the idea that women should cover their heads when they pray. As pastor Raul explains, these were cultural customs of the time! Why? It distinguished godly women from the prostitutes who did not wear any head coverings or veils.

The lack of understanding the cultural context can bring these denominations into bondage. People take these Scriptures and turn them into tradition, yet they are far from it! I think this is why we need to be careful when we read the Bible. We need to come to an understanding of the Scriptures, not just reading once, but hundreds of times over--with proper context.

People love to cite 1 Corinthians 11:5, 6 concerning the need for women to cover their heads. Well, aside from the cultural context, if you read further Paul states (verse 16), "But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God." Paul says it clearly, these are traditions of the church, not of God.

This is why I really appreciate the Calvary Chapel movement. Following the Bible to the very word, and applying it to our church. I like that Calvary Chapels go book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, from Genesis to Revelation, it is the right way to get the full counsel of God. I was amazed the first time I went in. People dressed casually, the pastor dressed in jeans and a regular shirt. Why does this matter? Because Jesus, Paul, Peter, etc., emphasized that it's not about a building or about appearance! It is about the person being the temple of God. When people begin to divide themselves concerning minor things that do not exist in the Bible, their movement comes to a standing halt. Traditions of man are the antithesis of Christianity. But the traditions of God, which are found in the Bible, are the makeup of Christianity.

I can say that this is one thing that I dislike about denominations--and why I call myself a nondenominational Christian. Because denominations fall more in love with their own traditions than they do with Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Bible. Legalism is scary, and I've seen it at its worst in the Catholic Church, and many Protestant churches.

Wow. I am inclined to write about what I read tonight, however, I have to get up early. Making a trip to Disneyland. But what an awesome set of chapters.

Just something to think about: Do you want God's permissive will in your life, or God's perfect will? Furthermore, if you answered God's perfect will how will you know what it is? Well, reading your Bibles daily, praying daily, and staying in fellowship with other believers--daily! Remember, God cannot use your life if your heart is divided. If you are still serving this world God cannot--and will not--use your life; you will remain a carnal person. Surrender your life to Him and watch as the Lord uses you for His perfect will.

Women, Dating, Marriage, Modesty, And Their Role In The Church

That was the topic of pastor Raul's study in 1 Timothy 2 :9-10, listen (here). During his radio ministry "The Somebody Loves You" radio ministry, he spoke of these topics.

But he also alludes to the role of men. Pastor Raul talks about the role of both genders. And he got into the immoral woman; I thought that was interesting! Here is something compelling that he said:

"If you are single tonight--you don't have a wife--you should not seek after a wife. I tell young kids all of the time I don't think they should date. I think they should just wait on the Lord. Because you don't really know who He is going to give to you. And if you go out with someone the Lord has not given to you, and you break up, then you wasted all of that time, plus money [he starts laughing]. Might as well just wait on the Lord, and see what the Lord has for you. You don't want to make a mistake, you want to be in God's perfect will. But a lot of times men and women are looking at the outward appearance. We live in a very physical world today..."

UK's Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science advisor to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, claimed House Democrats have refused to allow him to appear alongside former Vice President Al Gore at a high profile global warming hearing on Friday April 24, 2009 at 10am in Washington. Monckton told Climate Depot that the Democrats rescinded his scheduled joint appearance at the House Energy and Commerce hearing on Friday. Monckton said he was informed that he would not be allowed to testify alongside Gore when his plane landed from England Thursday afternoon.

“The House Democrats don't want Gore humiliated, so they slammed the door of the Capitol in my face,” Monckton told Climate Depot in an exclusive interview. “They are cowards.”

According to Monckton, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas), Ranking Member on the Energy & Commerce Committee, had invited him to go head to head with Gore and testify at the hearing on Capitol Hill Friday. But Monckton now says that when his airplane from London landed in the U.S. on Thursday, he was informed that the former Vice-President had “chickened out” and there would be no joint appearance. Gore is scheduled to testify on Friday to the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment's fourth day of hearings on the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. Appearing before a House panel Thursday, Supreme Court justices Clarence Thomas and Stephen Breyer said that justices remain undecided on whether to allow television broadcasts of court proceedings, despite debate over the issue.

"Jay Leno Hospitalized; Tonight's Show Canceled"

"Tonight Show" host Jay Leno has been hospitalized.

According to Tracy St. Pierre of NBC, Leno checked himself in to the hospital because he wasn't feeling well.

St. Pierre confirmed, tonight's show taping has been canceled.

There had been speculation that Leno may be suffering from food poisoning, however St. Pierre said she did not believe that was the case.

She would not elaborate on the comedian's condition, except to say Leno was being checked out by doctors.

A lot of people claim to be my No. 1 fan -- God bless them -- but my true No. 1 fan left this world last week. My mother quietly stopped breathing last Tuesday, as she slept peacefully, holding my hand.

She was the biggest fan of all of us -- Father, me and my brothers John and Jim.

After reading the eulogy column I wrote for Father last year -- not to excess, probably only about 4,637 times -- Mother realized to her chagrin that she wouldn't be able to read the eulogy column I'd be writing for her, and started hinting that maybe I could rustle up a draft so she could take a peek.

But I couldn't do it, until I had to.

The only thing Mother wanted to be sure my brothers and I included in her remembrances were her contributions to the Republican Party, the New Canaan Republican Town Committee and the Daughters of the American Revolution...READ ON

In releasing highly classified documents on the CIA interrogation program last week, President Obama declared that the techniques used to question captured terrorists "did not make us safer." This is patently false. The proof is in the memos Obama made public -- in sections that have gone virtually unreported in the media.

Consider the Justice Department memo of May 30, 2005. It notes that "the CIA believes 'the intelligence acquired from these interrogations has been a key reason why al Qaeda has failed to launch a spectacular attack in the West since 11 September 2001.' . . . In particular, the CIA believes that it would have been unable to obtain critical information from numerous detainees, including [Khalid Sheik Mohammed] and Abu Zubaydah, without these enhanced techniques." The memo continues: "Before the CIA used enhanced techniques . . . KSM resisted giving any answers to questions about future attacks, simply noting, 'Soon you will find out.' " Once the techniques were applied, "interrogations have led to specific, actionable intelligence, as well as a general increase in the amount of intelligence regarding al Qaeda and its affiliates."...READ ON

When new information about Americans who had cooperated with the Soviet KGB began to emerge in the 1990s, no individual case generated as much controversy as that of the journalist I.F. Stone, who had long been installed in the pantheon of left-wing heroes as a symbol of rectitude and a teller of truth to power before his death in 1989. Charges about Stone’s connections with the KGB have been swirling about for more than a decade, prompting cries of outrage among his passionate followers. Until now, the evidence was equivocal and subject to different interpretations. No longer.
In the early 1990s, one of us—Alexander Vassiliev, a former KGB officer turned Russian journalist—was given authorized access to the files of the SVR (the successor spy agency to the KGB in Russia following the collapse of the Soviet Union) to pursue research for a book that was eventually published in 1998 under the title The Haunted Wood.¹ By the time of publication, Vassiliev, fearing retribution from hard-line Communists and nationalists angered by revelations of secrets, had moved permanently to Great Britain. He left his original notebooks, containing more than 1,100 pages of detailed notes and lengthy quotations, with friends in Moscow. They were filled with details about people and issues that did not fit the parameters of The Haunted Wood or whose significance Vassiliev did not then realize.

The Central Intelligence Agency told CNSNews.com today that it stands by the assertion made in a May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that the use of “enhanced techniques” of interrogation on al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM) -- including the use of waterboarding -- caused KSM to reveal information that allowed the U.S. government to thwart a planned attack on Los Angeles.

Before he was waterboarded, when KSM was asked about planned attacks on the United States, he ominously told his CIA interrogators, “Soon, you will know.”

The heat always reminds me of one thing: summer! I hate the heat, but I love summertime. I think back to the awesome summer of 2007 when things barely took off; a resurgent relationship. But also the trip to the moutains with my old buddies. The heat has a special place in my heart, more so because it transports me into joyous thoughts of the 'good times'.

Sitting in bed, I decided to pull out my sheet instead of using heavy blankets. I am again reminded of the most amazing summer of 2007. The months after graduation--triumph--and the weeks before leaving to F&M--eager uncertainty. The love, the friendships, the time spent with others. I treasure those memories; and yet I think of you. There will always remain a place in my heart for you.

It's amazing the memories that come with the horrible heat and a thin sheet.

I just remembered why that day was so important.

Thank God I have Men's Fellowship that night. I'll be around like-minded men.

To think, some thoughts pull you back to the former, and put before you the things of the past. It really brings me down. But then I remember Romans 6:6:

knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

With all of the hurt, pain, and angst brought on by the person who was closest to me, my Lord and savior Jesus Christ embraces me with open arms. No strings attached, no need to second guess His love.

That is true unwavering love.

Gilchrist Speech Canceled--Again

Buca di Beppo Restaurant is managed and owned by cowards. I guess anyone with views similar to Gilchrist (most conservatives), are "...not conducive with Buca Di Beppo's family atmosphere." I'll think twice before I willingly eat there.

An event headlined by Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist tonight has been canceled by the restaurant it was to be held at.

Gilchrist was set to speak at the Buca di Beppo Restaurant restaurant in Claremont tonight to the local Republican Club in Claremont on protecting the border with Mexico from illegal immigration.

Restaurant officials told Claremont police they canceled the event because they were "not aware of the specific speaker's background," Lt. Dennis Smith said.

Gilchrist and The Minuteman Project are known for pushing for strict Mexican border control and immigration law enforcement.

The restaurant decided Gilcrest's views were not conducive with Buca Di Beppo's family atmosphere, Smith said.
